The fleeting shimmer of material triumphs, or the enduring resonance of art, philosophy, and truth? This question lies at the heart of the works of Antonio Ma-at, a Filipino literary visionary whose writings are not only admired but contemplated, wrestled with, and passed on as meditations for generations yet to come.
Ma-at is the mind behind some of today’s most profound literary-philosophical compositions. His trilogy — Ordo Degratus Caeli (The Fallen Order of Heaven), Silentium Dei (God’s Silence), and Ultima Verus Contra Tenebras (The Final Truth Against the Darkness) — takes readers into realms where theology, mythology, and human frailty converge. Ordo Degratus Caeli portrays sanctuaries collapsing under corruption, Silentium Dei captures the aching void of divine silence, and Ultima Verus Contra Tenebras confronts humanity’s eternal struggle against darkness in search of light.
These works are not poems for leisure but meditations for the conscience. They press upon us urgent, timeless questions: What happens when the sacred is scarred? How do we endure when even heaven falls silent? Where is truth when the world crumbles? Such questions transcend the moment; they are as eternal as humanity itself.
Recognized internationally, Antonio’s influence extends beyond the Philippines. His works have been featured at the Academy of Farsala in Greece, where he collaborates with philosophers and Academy President Yannis Fikas, building bridges between East and West, art and reason, past and future.
Beyond literature, Antonio nurtures creativity as an administrator of global writing communities — including Filipino Poets in Blossoms, World of Writers, Passion of Poetry, and New Leaf Writing Community — guiding over 170,000 writers worldwide. His vision democratizes excellence, honoring every form of human creativity as art.
For future generations, Antonio Ma-at’s works affirm a lasting truth: civilizations endure not by wealth or conquest, but by the questions, stories, and ideas they leave behind. In the silence of heaven and the shadows of darkness, he leaves a call that transcends time — to create, to reflect, and to seek the light without end.
1.) Ultima Verus Contra Tenebras
“The Final Truth Against the Darkness”
by Antonio Ma-at
The sky shrinks down into the abyss.
The fowls, once seers with the slithering wind, have broken their wings.
The mountains roar as they lose their grip to soar,
And the beasts of the land have fallen astray,
For they thirst for one another as prey.
The eternal flame burns a thousand souls each day.
Awake and undead, they live in the sun to mourn.
They grit their teeth.
They swallow their tongues.
They confess,
Yet forgiveness is not found.
No wrath remained in the flame,
Yet rivers of tears have been displayed.
Shadows of regret crept like worms inside the head,
tormented by memories of what was once said.
Now, eyes are deeply swollen, and their throats have been slit,
Still, they call on the Name above all names.
But this time,
The heavens did not answer.
And the Hand did not descend.
For the last truth had already spoken,
And none remained to listen.
2.) Ordo Degratus Caeli – The Fallen Order of Heaven
The most silent water within the sanctuary began to ripple,
Placed atop the highest mountains,
Where neither breeze nor sound could enter.
A thousand lifetimes walked through,
Yet peace upon the land had always remained just.
Until now…
For the still waters began to ripple.
The most radiant reflections are now distorted,
The golden ceilings, the mighty pillars,
And their divine hues have been disfigured.
What was once clear and pure has become warped.
So too has the sacred order of the sanctuary, now scarred.
The light that once guided now blinds the enlightened.
Confusion sown corrupts its citizens.
Their tongues twist, their eyes roll upward,
Their hearts and minds lost to the dark.
What was bright has turned to black,
And evil now wears their noble mark.
Their spirits growl for hours as their teeth fall one by one.
They speak in tongues, bodies pressed to the ground.
Their veins burst, arms stretching beyond the breaking point.
Then came a seraphim
Wings once ablaze with dimmed valor.
He beheld the strong-willed angels fall,
Their halos cracked by a silent call.
Grief crushed his heart like a dying sun.
So he turned his blade inward,
And at Heaven’s gates, his golden blood was shed.
The sky bore witness to a divine death.
It watched the darkness bloom below,
Weeping vengeance in a storm of daggers, cold and slow.
The grass turned silver with despair,
And the holy waters ran thick with blood, staining the sacred air.
All it took was a single ripple
To drown the sacred waters’ final hymn.
3.) Silentium Dei
(God’s Silence)
I unveiled what once was given
a sacred oil, unseen,
dripping from my crown
to the soles of my feet.
This sorrow cannot be hidden;
it burns within this ruptured heart of mine,
forever trembling,
endlessly aching…
Who could have concealed it?
Even in the shadow’s fold,
the darkness dares to rise,
and night devours with cruel, cold eyes.
It swallows me whole,
leaving behind
a sacred vacuum,
etched deep within the marrow of my soul.
Though I ache to flee,
my essence is bound
a spirit locked
within this fractured ground.
Escape is but a mirage;
terror, my new home,
a place where nightmares endlessly roam.
Even the stars have turned their backs on me.
The moon hides its face from me.
The night’s stormy winds refuse to carry me
raindrops won’t even dare to touch me.
I am dismantled
by the divine
a forgotten soul,
with no name at all.
The scrolls once declared:
“I was formed in glory,”
but now – how can beauty deny me?
I long to live,
to touch the truth of life,
but the banners of understanding
refuse to rise beside me.
Nor do the gates of knowledge
allow me to be free.
And the gatekeeper told me:
“Freedom was yours,
yet you chose your own course.
Now you long for life’s return,
but forsake the promise
you once did earn.”
